Let’s start with the basics first. I live in York. York is a wonderful city set in the heart of Yorkshire and I count myself very fortunate to call it home. With me are my two wonderful daughters Lucy and Emma . I never set out to become a wedding photographer; photography kind of found me.
As a youngster, I loved painting, drawing, photography and art but drifted away from all that as university beckoned (somehow ending up with a degree in philosophy and modern history). Anyway, fast forward about a decade or so to the birth of my first daughter Lucy in 2004. Lucy’s entrance into the world changed me. I reassessed my values and goals and sensing a need to rediscover my creative side got my first SLR camera. Picking up a camera again after all those years rekindled something in me and I was driven to document Lucy’s precious first moments, her smiles, discoveries, achievements and laughter.
After a short while I set up a Flickr account and started uploading my pictures. That was a turning point for me really, I was introduced to a bunch of photographers whose work I really admired and people started to comment on the stuff that I was posting. Those early comments encouraged me to take my photography further, invest a little more in cameras and gain enough confidence to start taking pictures for others. Then in 2009, I photographed a friend’s wedding. I loved it and more importantly (thank you Emma and Neil) so did they. That day marked the start of my journey, I became hooked on wedding photography and photographing weddings in York, Yorkshire and beyond ever since.
