I was reminded recently having purchased, read and reread Jonathan Canlas’ excellent FIND book of the need and importance of shooting personal work. Not an issue you might think; if you’re a photographer you take pictures – simple. Well almost, but not quite. You see it’s easy when you’re taking pictures professionally week in, week out to stop taking pictures for yourself. The advice in Jonathan’s book inspired me to grab the camera last weekend and head out with the girls, have a bucket load of fun and take a few pictures. The trip out also reminded me that personal work is important not just from the perspective of documenting your own life and your children’s lives but also in terms of experimentation, keeping your own style of photography ‘fresh’ and ultimately becoming a better photographer.

Good to hear Nathan, that’s something that I’ve really neglected since the wedding season started. That’s why the little trips like India are important for me so I can get away and just focus on doing what I love doing – documenting people. It’s very hard to get your mojo back when you have editing/marketing/blogging/etc filling up your. Think I’ll have to pick up that book…p.s.lovely b/w’s…
Love this shot of Leanne getting ready ahead of her wedding to Dominic last month in Sheffield. Leanne was a picture of calmness – in spite of the fact that a broken zip in her mum’s dress with just 15 minutes to go before the ceremony began meant that the same could not be said of everyone else!

I shared a shot from Sarah & Zak’s North Yorkshire wedding a few weeks ago as part of my regular ‘Image of the Week’ series. Sarah and Zak’s wedding had it all ~ beautiful sunshine, a vintage VW Camper, love, singing (lots of singing) and laughter…..

Really awesome shots Nathan
Zak and Sarah were married in April. The weather leading up to the wedding had been awful and I was expecting the worst. However, we couldn’t have been luckier on the day and I can honestly say that Zak and Sarah’s wedding was one of the most natural and fun weddings that I’ve ever had the privilege of photographing. I’ll be featuring the full wedding soon….
